Largo Police gives away free bicycle lights

Largo, Florida -- The Largo Police Department will be giving away 1,000 bicycle light packages they received from the Florida Department of Transportation.

Each package contains an LED headlight and tail light, mountable to a bicycle.

Largo Police Department's Traffic Safety Unit began a concentrated effort to enforce bicycle safety and are stopping bicyclists who are riding without lights. Several bicyclists have already been stopped and issued a written warning for the violation. After receiving their written warning, Traffic Safety officers installed new lights on their bicycles before they rode off.

Bicycle lights will be kept at the front desk of the Largo Police Department, to give away and install on bicycles for those who are in need of them. Our intentions are to actually install the lights on bicycles as opposed to simply handing them out.
