Father and son battle on football field
News

Clearwater, Florida -- The date has been circled on the calendar in the Abraham household for months. Nine-year NFL veteran, and former Buccaneers cornerback, Donnie Abraham, facing off with his son, Devin, in the regular season finale.

"When I got this position and we knew we were going to play each other at the end of the year, that's when it actually started," Donnie said about the trash talking in his home. "This week it'll get a little more heated."

Donnie spent six seasons as an assistant football coach at East Lake High School. Now he's the coach-in-waiting at Clearwater High School. Devin is a junior for the Eagles. His season finale is tonight against dad's Tornadoes.

"I definitely won't be able to live that down if we lose," said Devin, a junior cornerback.

The battle is the culmination of a week-long build up that saw both Abrahams jocky for the coveted family bragging rights. Donnie vows a close game. Devin vows embarrassment.

"I guess my wife will be torn this week but I guess she'll be leaning towards East Lake for her baby," said Donnie.

Family members are expected to come from all over to see the father-son match-up. Devin already told Donnie that he'd be over on the Clearwater sideline to taunt him if he gets an interception or a touchdown.

"And I'm going to definitely be crying for a penalty if he does that so I can get 15 yards out of it," smiled dad.

The two have a healthy respect for each other, but that doesn't keep them from wanting to one-up each other. Donnie taught Devin how to play. Now, the son can use those lessons against his tutor.

"He understands the game of football," said Donnie. "Offensively, especially when we are going to throw the ball, we are going to have to account for him at all times."

The Eagles and Tornadoes kick off from Clearwater at 7:30 p.m.
