ST. PETERSBURG, Florida -- The St. Petersburg Police Department is asking for your help to find an arsonist who they believe is responsible for four house fires in one neighborhood.

According to authorities, they happened over the course of 13 months in the Causeway Isles community.

On Monday, detectives knocked on doors and handed out fliers in hopes of generating leads and making residents aware, especially with the holiday season in full swing.

The most recent fire happened Sunday at a home along the 7900 block of 2nd Avenue South, when the residents were out of town. Police said the fire was started from inside the house. They add that two dogs were inside at the time. One of them died.

Police add the arsonist hit a vacant house along the 100 block of 79th Street South in October by setting a fire inside a screened-in porch. Investigators said in September flames sparked up in an exterior area of the home right next door. In both cases, the homes were vacant and damage was minor, according to authorities.

Also, in October of last year, police said the arsonist started a fire inside a house along the 7900 block of 2nd Avenue South. The fire gutted the home and the property is now a vacant lot.

Residents are on edge with the whole situation.

"I changed all the batteries in my smoke detectors last night and I'm nervous about leaving the home alone," said Kathleen Goff.

If you have any information on the arson cases, you're asked to call the St. Petersburg Police Department.
