Tampa files BP Oil Spill Claim
News

Tampa, FL -- Nearly three years after the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, the city of tampa is filing a more than $50 million dollar claim against BP.

While no oil showed up on bay area shorelines, the city's investigators believe we've had far-reaching negative effects.

Tampa's special counsel appointed to look into a potential claim looked into more than a dozen different area's of the city, from conventions to tourism to even golf courses, and found the city was missing out on tax revenue from not only would-be visitors during the spill, but future business too.

BP tells us they're is committed to paying all legitimate claims relating to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

To date, BP has paid out more than $9.8 billion to individuals, businesses, governments, and other payments.

As for what the city will do with any money from the BP claim, the mayor's office says we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.
