St. Pete standoff suspect in custody

St. Petersburg, Florida -- St. Petersburg police say they have a suspect in custody after a standoff at 28th St. North between 38th Ave. North and 46th Ave. North.

Authorities say they received a call of an armed man in the area around 4 p.m. They say the suspect, 24-year-old Martiego Wallace, went into a home where he got into an argument with a woman there who snitched on him. He then allegedly threatened to kill her.

Police say the woman fled the home and called the police.

Wallace then reportedly ran into a home in the 4000 block of 28th Street North told the family there he had a gun and that there was a warrant for his arrest. The family fled.

Police say Wallace stayed in the upstairs bedroom until he attempted to jump out the south side of the house onto the garage, where he was confronted by SWAT team members.

Wallace was subdued after a violent struggle and taken into custody.

A portion of 28th Avenue and several adjoining streets were closed during the standoff. They are now open.
