Manatee calf rescued, recovering at Lowry Park Zoo
News

Tampa, Florida -- The last Wednesday of March just happens to be Manatee Appreciation Day, and Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo honored it by taking in a manatee calf that was rescued from Bayboro Harbor in St. Petersburg.

Zoo officials say the 90-pound male is an orphan and is suffering from cold stress. Currently, he is resting in a heated shallow water medical pool where his body temperature is steadily improving.

The calf will receive around-the-clock care and has reportedly taken to a Pedialyte bottle for food.
