Railroad maintenance to impact Largo traffic

Pinellas County, Florida - Some Largo residents and students should plan for traffic delays and alternate routes during the first week in June as CSX Railroad continues a county-wide project of replacing rubberized crossings.

Officials say both Rosery Road and 8th Avenue SE will close for a minimum of three days during the construction- most likely on Tues, Wed, and Thurs.

The closure at 8th Avenue may impact Largo Middle School during the last week of school. Largo City staff requested CSX to postpone the closure of that crossing until June 6th, the day after school ends. They did acknowledge the request, but did not commit to changing the date.

The CSX project of replacing all rubberized crossings in Pinellas County is part of a total replacement of the railroad cross ties on the Pinellas County sections of track from Lakeview Road in Clearwater south to downtown St. Petersburg. There are approximately 25 crossings in Pinellas County which will be replaced during a three week period.

CSX has committed to remove all of the old ties, stone piles and other direct railroad debris following the crossing project.
