Pinellas County, Florida -- The N.O.P.E (Narcotics Overdose Prevention & Education) Task Force presented scholarships to three high school students to help cover college costs. 

The NOPE (Narcotics Overdose Prevention & Education) Task Force, Pinellas Chapter, recently presented three high school seniors with scholarships during award presentations at Dunedin, East Lake and Largo High Schools. A total of three scholarships were awarded during the ceremonies; one for $1000, one for $750 and one for $500.

Among other things, the students had to write an essay on the effects of drugs on the teenage brain, create a visual or audio presentation on "one pill can kill" and submit a reference letter from their school sponsor or teacher.

The scholarship winners are as follows:

Alex Lebhar is the scholarship winner from Dunedin High School. 

He is an active member of the SADD club.  Deputy Jim Miller, Dunedin High School SRO, stated in Alex's reference letter "Students like Alex make my job as an SRO satisfying and relieving because I know he does the right thing and goes beyond what is expected of him."  NOPE awarded a $500 scholarship to Alex to continue his education at the University of Central Florida.

East Lake High School student Meagan Militello was awarded a $750 scholarship.

She is the president of the SADD club. Deputy Kurt Frazho, East Lake High School SRO, stated in Meagan's reference letter "I have worked with Meagan and she has had no problems in or out of school and she is a fine example of what a SADD member should be."  Meagan plans to continue her education at Florida Atlantic University.

Pooja Madhvani is the scholarship winner from Largo High School.

She is an active member of the Live Free group.  Denis Soffos, Largo High School English teacher, stated in Pooja's reference letter "I am impressed with Pooja's dedication to education and her exemplary representation of integrity.  She remains an active member of the Live Free Club encouraging others to participate and to remain drug and alcohol free. " NOPE awarded a $1000 scholarship to Pooja to continue her education at St. Petersburg College.
