City appoints new social services planning manager

St. Petersburg, Florida -- A seasoned executive who has spent the last 35 years serving the needs of homeless individuals in Pinellas County will start on Monday, June 3 as St. Petersburg's new social services planning manager.

Clifford Smith, who was most recently the Pinellas County Department of Health and Human Services assistant director, has been appointed by Mayor Bill Foster to continue the progress the city has made in recent years in serving homeless individuals and the agencies that provide social  services. He started his career with Pinellas County in 1978 as a social worker.

"Cliff's long-term association with social service agencies in Pinellas County will become invaluable as we continue our efforts to work with our homeless population and the agencies who serve them."

As Mr. Smith comes on board, the city is currently in the process of allocating $338,000 in grants to social service agencies, primarily to those organizations that provide services to the homeless. Deadline to apply for funds in June 8.
