WATCH: Video shows tree crashing into restaurant | News
Gulfport, Florida -- A community is coming together to help out a local restaurant after strong winds from Tropical Storm Andrea threw the limbs of a giant tree on top of it.
Dozens of people -- including Gulfport's mayor -- gathered to get the decades-old cedar tree off of Yummy's Casual Cafe.
With no official prompting, several neighbors gathered branches and debris into piles as others sliced the huge limbs into manageable sections with chainsaws.
"This is just the coolest thing ever," said Sarah Owens, who came over from her nearby business to watch the community at work.
"You know what? This town does not waste time. And it makes me proud to live in Gulfport. I love this city, and I'm really proud to be part of it right now."
A waterspout was seen near Gulfport just before 10 a.m. Thursday and apparently became a tornado, coming ashore at the south end of the city and causing damage all along Gulfport's main drag, Beach Boulevard.
Yummy's restaurant owner Richard Reale tells Grayson he made the decision to keep his restaurant closed on Thursday because of the approaching tropical storm.
Had the popular hot dog joint been open, Reale says someone easily could have been killed. The bulk of the tree fell on one corner of the restaurant, in an area Reale says was the most requested seat in the house.
