A Tornado Watch remains in effect for the rest of the Bay area until 1 p.m. Thursday.

The Bay area counties under the Tornado Watch are Citrus, DeSoto, Hardee, Hernando, Highlands, Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, and Sarasota.

There were unconfirmed reports Thursday morning of a tornado touching down in the Kathleen area of Polk County but sheriff's office spokeswoman Carrie Eleazer said she didn't know anything about it.

The storm is downing power lines, causing traffic crashes and is responsible for delays at Orlando International Airport.

If you are in the path of a tornado, go to a small interior room in a strong and well constructed building. Cars and mobile homes are not safe. If no shelter is available, lie flat in a ditch or culvert and cover your head with your hands.
