Cops chase stolen car; 91-year-old woman carjacked

St. Petersburg, Florida -- It's a bump and grab scheme designed to steal your car, and Thursday, it's exactly what landed a 91-year-old crime victim a trip to the hospital and the suspects behind bars.

Story: Suspects caught after carjacking, police chase

Sky10 hovered over a chaotic scene in St. Petersburg after two suspects in a stolen, black Dodge pick-up, rammed a car driven by a 91-year-old woman.

According to police, one suspect pulled the elderly victim from her Green, Toyota Venza, jumped in and then took off as the pick-up following behind.

Later cops say they saw two men in the carjacked vehicle and gave chase through south St. Pete.

Witnesses said the suspects ping-ponged their way through intersections, hit at least four vehicles and even drove on the sidewalk to get away.

"They hit a van right there, went up on the sidewalk, sped down to the rib shack and then dipped out," said one witness.

One driver hit during the chaos complained of back pain, and was strapped to a stretcher and taken to the hospital.

The suspects eventually ditched the Venza, then took off on foot. Cops cordoned off the area, and eventually apprehended and arrested both men identified Friday morning as Travonte Banks and Savon Hunter.

Banks is believed to be the driver of the carjacked vehicle and is currently charged with carjacking, aggravated fleeing and eluding, four counts of leaving the scene of an accident, resisting arrest without violence and threatening a public official. The last charge involves verbal threats he made to investigating officers. Banks is believed to have participated in the actual carjacking of the 91-year-old victim.

Hunter, the passenger, is currently charged with two counts of violation of probation for robbery and resisting arrest without violence. Hunter involvement in the carjacking is still under investigation, but he has not been charged in relation to that incident at this time.

Police are still searching for the stolen 2002 silver Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck. The truck's tag info is FL C887BI.
