Update: Both carjacking suspects in custody

Clearwater, FL - Police say two carjackers have been captured after an intense manhunt in Clearwater and Pinellas Park on Tuesday morning.

After the teenagers held nurse Susan Biggs at gunpoint in the parking lot of Morton Plant Hospital, police say they took off with the car and the Bible she had been reading before the start of her shift.

Biggs said every shift starts the same for her. She sits in her car in the Clearwater hospital's parking lot and reads her Bible.

As she was reading at 4:26 a.m. Tuesday, police say two men snuck up to her open window with a gun and ordered her to get out.

They took her car and fled the scene. A short time later, police spotted the carjackers on US 19 and began a pursuit. The suspects turned down a dead-end road on 94th Avenue in Pinellas Park, crashed, bailed out, and ran.

The vehicle was abandoned just outside of the gates of a company called Trademark Metals.

Cross Bayou Elementary in Pinellas Park was on lockdown for part of the morning, with an added police presence at the school. The lockdown was lifted after the suspects were taken into custody.

Officers blocked off a mobile home complex behind Cross Bayou Elementary. It's about five blocks north from where the car was ditched. One suspect was apprehended there around 9 a.m., with the second suspect captured less than an hour later.

Police say the second suspect was soaking wet when arrested, having come out of the Cross Bayou Canal. Investigators say he "played naive" when questioned.

The suspects are 15 and 17 years old. Investigators say they have a history of breaking into cars, but nothing violent like a carjacking.

Following our Crime Guidelines, 10 News will not identify juvenile suspects.

Officers and deputies from the Clearwater Police Department, Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, Largo Police and Pinellas Park Police are all involved in this investigation.

The suspects allegedly took Biggs' Bible when they took her car. Speaking with reporters, the victim's son said the thieves are going to need it.
