Motorcyclist shocked by video of his own crash: he walks away unharmed | News
Clearwater, Florida - "Wow, that's crazy, I straight up walked away. Wait, go back!" said Michael Smith.
It's video that is SO shocking even the guy in it has to watch it twice. Clearwater police say a car made an improper left turn after the light turns red. An oncoming motorcyclist hit the car and flipped in the air! But you can see the motorcyclist gets up and walk away and, amazingly, he was not hurt.
Michael Smith says he's been without a ride since that crash. His bike was totaled. 10 News found him at work at the IHOP on Clearwater Beach and showed him the video. He says it's been hard getting to work without the bike. "Taxi cab! Literally. $20 here, $20 back!"
"I was literally upside down thinking, 'I can land on my head or my feet,'" Smith said about the crash. "I didn't have a helmet on, as you can see." He sticks the landing, tucks and rolls. Then walks it off. " ... called my boy, said, 'Come get me somebody hit me.'"
His friend couldn't believe the video either. "Phew. Wow! That's crazy."
Clearwater police say the driver was ticketed for an improper left turn and suspended license. Smith was ticketed for not having a Florida motorcycle license.
"I learned if it is a yellow light, don't go through it," said Smith. His friend suggested he never gets another motorcycle, but a car instead. That's not the case, though; Smith says he can't wait to ride again. In fact, he gets his new bike today. He does say he'll try to avoid the busy intersection, Gulf-to-Bay Blvd. and Belcher Road, as much as possible.
