Deadly hit and run in St. Pete | News
St. Petersburg, FL - The St. Petersburg Police Department is currently on the scene of a hit and run accident at the intersection of 9th Avenue South and 16th Street. The initial call came in at approximately 3 a.m. Thursday.
Two vehicles were involved, with one being found unoccupied when officers arrived on the scene. It appears the driver and any other possible occupants of that car had already left the scene.
The second vehicle was found engulfed in flames with three occupants inside.
A female occupant managed to get out of the car and was taken to Tampa General Hospital via helicopter for treatment of severe burns. The two other occupants were unable to be rescued and pronounced dead on the scene.
Police are still working to identify the victims.
Efforts to locate the hit and run driver are ongoing.
