Driver plows into South Pasadena Wal-Mart

South Pasadena, Florida -- Walmart Neighborhood Market shoppers in South Pasadena had a scary early morning when a driver crashed his SUV through the produce section.

Police say 32-year-old Frank J. Lucero was in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart store on Gulfport Blvd. S. at a stop sign directly facing the front of the store. A witness, who was in a vehicle behind Lucero, told deputies they noticed Lucero was not moving. The witness blew the horn, flashed the lights and when the vehicle still did not move, drove around it.

The witness then parked and as they walked toward the store, they saw Lucero accelerate suddenly and crash directly into the building.

No one was hurt but there was thousands of dollars in damage to the produce section and the coolers. The store closed for a several hours and re-opened later Thursday morning.

A Wal-Mart corporate spokesperson said the produce area will remain closed until they can fix the area and the hole.

Deputies conducted a DUI investigation and Lucero was subsequently arrested for DUI. His bond is set at $1,150.
