Pinellas County, FL -- PInellas County elected officials recently stated the Emergency Medical Services system is on the verge of financial crisis.
Officials are examining the EMS system to try to make it more efficient and sustainable and one idea is to eliminate the private ambulance and allow firefighters to drive patients to the hospital. Other Florida counties allow fire-based transport to provide faster, cheaper service and better patient care.
So, officials want to hear from you. Should firefighters (first responders) transport patients to the hospital?
According to Lealman Fire Captain, Jim Millican, "more than 55 percent of the County's providers are already united behind Fire-Based Transport".
Residents are encourarged to call (727) 346-8911 with their thoughts before the next county Commission meeting on Nov. 28.
