Black Friday starts earlier than ever at St. Pete Toys "R" Us | News
ST. PETERSBURG, FL -- 11-year-old Taylor Lowman had heard stories about Black Friday.
"It was going to be a lot of work and people pushing and stuff," Lowman says.
Black Friday turned into Black Thursday night as Toys "R" Us opened at 9 p.m. on Thanksgiving, earlier than ever before. Lowman and her family lined up at 6 p.m. By the time the doors opened, the line stretched around the side of the building and continued to the back of it. Store employees estimated that about 500 people were there as the doors opened. The first family to enter the store had arrived there at 12:30 p.m.
"I do kind of like that Black Friday is at night now so that I don't have to stay awake and plan to be here early," Josalyn Lowman says.
Toys "R" Us let 50 people in at a time so that the store wouldn't get overcrowded. Even by 11 p.m., the line still stretched around the back of the property. But for the Lowmans, the wait was worth it - not just for savings, but for creating a family tradition.
"I love doing this actually," Josalyn Lowman says. "It's exciting to me to get the good deals."
