13-year-old disappears with man she met online | News
Winter Haven, Florida - Winter Haven Police say a 13-year-old girl who was reported missing over the weekend was with a 26-year-old man she met in an online dating service.
Matthew Calvin was arrested after investigators say he picked up Lorei Mashea-Hale Parkins, provided her alcohol and then took her to Pinellas County over the weekend.
Police were called Friday after Parkins didn't return home from school. An extensive search began, which ultimately led investigators to her location at Herbert Street in Auburndale.
Calvin reportedly has an extensive criminal history, including multiple domestic violence charges, drug charges, burglary and grand theft.
Calvin and Parkins had reportedly met through datehookup.com, an online dating service. Detectives say they started talking on November 25, and Parkins contacted Calvin on Friday, asking him to pick her up. After school, Parkins walked to a local Walmart, where she met up with Calvin and another unknown male, and together the three went to Auburndale, where they consumed alcohol.
On Saturday, the group reportedly traveled to the Sunshine Skyway Bridge in St. Petersburg to go fishing. Through an extensive search, Winter Haven detectives learned Parkins had gotten into a cab near Gandy Blvd. and started traveling back to Polk County.
At about 9 p.m., detectives intercepted the cab and Parkins was brought back to Winter Haven and reunited with her family.
Calvin was later located and arrested on the following charges:
Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor, Interfering With Child Custody and Obscene Communication-Traveling To Meet A Minor. He is currently being held in the Polk County Jail without bond.
