10 Community supports the Rays Foundation

St. Petersburg, Florida -- On Tuesday, Jan. 28, 10 News President and General Manager Elliott Wiser presented the Rays Foundation with a $25,000 donation on behalf of 10 News and our parent company Gannett.

The Rays Baseball Foundation is committed to supporting youth and education programs throughout the Tampa Bay region.

Unanswered questions over soldier's death

Seminole, Florida - A Bay area mother is heartbroken as she tries  to understand how her son survived the war in Afghanistan, only to lose his life here in the States.

23-year-old Specialist Glenn Moore, III was stationed at Fort Hood Army Base in Fort Hood, Texas. He died Wednesday, January 22 during a high speed chase with Cooperas Cove, Texas police some five miles away from the base.

St. Pete woman appears on 'Wheel of Fortune'

St. Petersburg, Florida -- Melanie Barcley remembers watching "Wheel of Fortune" when her two sons were wearing diapers.  Her boys are now in their mid-20's.  On Tuesday, Barcley will be watching herself on her favorite game show.

Barcley is a contestant on "Wheel of Fortune," airing at 7 pm on 10 News.  She's been a fan for more than 30 years, but the effort to get on the show started more than a year ago.

Billboard advertises reward for missing woman

LARGO, Florida (AP) - A new billboard in Pinellas County is advertising the three-year-old cold case of a missing police cadet.

The billboard about the case has gone up near where police cadet Kelly Rothwell went missing.

Local driver gears up for IndyCar's 'Firestone' in St. Pete

St. Petersburg, Florida -- The Honda Grand Prix is no more. This year's race along the downtown waters will be named the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg and it's another chance for a local driver to win his hometown race.

Dollar will go further for Midtown residents thanks to new grocer

St. Petersburg, FL -- The impact of the new Walmart Neighborhood Market in Midtown may be felt the most in the wallet of residents who live in the area. 

That's because they could end up saving hundreds of dollars a year by shopping at the new Walmart for groceries, versus buying the same items at some of the convenience stores and small markets in the area.

"This is going to be a Godsend," Ron Hall told 10 News about Walmart opening in Midtown.

"It'll be more convenient. People won't have to spend more gas to get more groceries," added Janecia Coney.

Over 30 suspects busted in undercover child sex sting

Pinellas County, Florida-- A four-day, undercover operation landed 35 men behind bars who allegedly wanted to have sex with children.

Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri and Clearwater Police Chief Anthony Holloway announced the results of "Operation Home Alone" late Monday afternoon. 

Undercover agents posed as either children, or parents offering up their children to people in online chat rooms.
