ST. PETERSBURG, FL -- When Albert Johansson died homeless, penniless and abandoned by his family in West Yorkshire two decades ago, almost no one in Tampa Bay paid any heed. But the obscurity of his death cannot negate the global impact of his life.

Indeed, Johansson’s trailblazing odyssey on the other side of the Atlantic half-a-century earlier triggered worldwide ripples of repercussions that still, to this day, reverberate through the soccer field at Downtown St. Petersburg’s Al Lang Stadium.

Pinellas County, Florida -- Celebrations continue at Heritage Village with the Pinellas Folk Festival on Saturday, Jan. 25, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Pinellas County honors local veteran

Pinellas County, Florida -- Vietnam veteran and local artist Mike Willis was recently honored by the Pinellas County Veterans Service Office.

Willis attends the Bay Pines Veterans art therapy group and volunteered to create a painting which represented pride and patriotism. 

“Sometimes ideas come through based upon how my week has gone and is a way of me bringing out those emotions and creativity, said Willis. “I had never worked on a piece this large so this was a real challenge.”

Registration now open for Largo's men's 50+ softball league

Largo, Florida - The Recreation, Parks and Arts Athletics Division is accepting registration for their men's, slow pitch 50+ softball league that starts January 7. This high energy league will play on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9am at Whitesell Softball Complex. Tuesdays will be drop-in play and Thursdays will be formal league play.
