Meet your local legislators this Friday

Palm Harbor, Florida -- The Greater Palm Harbor Chamber of Commerce is holding its 2013 Legislative Breakfast this Friday, Jan. 11.

The Chamber says this is a great opportunity to meet their legislative delegation in an informal setting.

The breakfast will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.

Woman's body found at local motel

Lealman, Florida -- Pinellas County detectives are currently conducting a homicide investigation at a local motel.

According to reports, deputies found the body of 24-year-old Destynee Nekole Burkes of Gulfport, in a room at the La Quinta Inn off 34th Street North in Lealman this afternoon.

Officials say they are currently following up on information provided by witnesses at the scene.

St. Pete's McKeeman competes in Miss America

St. Petersburg, Florida -- St. Pete's own Laura McKeeman is spending the week in Sin City, hoping to bring back the Miss America crown to the Bay area.

The 23-year-old Miss Florida is a University of Florida Gator, who wants to pursue a Master's in Mass Communication. She's an aspiring journalist and eventually wants to host and produce a television show.

All 53 of the Miss America contestants will take the stage next Saturday, Jan. 12 in the competition at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas.
