Safety Harbor resident awarded national scholarship

Safety Harbor, Florida -- Katherine Bessell, Safety Harbor, has been awarded a $2000 scholarship by the Royal Neighbors Foundation.

A one-time payment will be made to her college of choice and will be used to help fund tuition, room and board, and books.

Prestigious honor awarded to Pinellas housing official

Pinellas County, Florida -- The Florida Community Development Association presented the Friend of Community Development award to Anthony Jones, executive director of the Housing Finance Authority and director of Pinellas County Community Development at its state conference held in Clearwater on Aug. 16. The FCDA is a training and advocacy organization for Florida Community Development Professionals.

The award was presented in recognition of the consistently high level of service, excellence and outstanding leadership in the field of community development.

Pinellas County Student Receives Statewide Scholarship

Pinellas County, Florida -- Chelsea Morgan of Palm Harbor is the recipient of the 2013 Jimmy Whitehouse Scholarship Award presented by the Florida State Association of Supervisors of Elections (FSASE).

The FSASE awards one $1,200 scholarship each year, and this year’s scholarship is named in memory of a former Highlands County Supervisor of Elections.

Hear from Mayoral Candidates before you vote

St. Petersburg, Florida -- You can hear from the St. Petersburg Mayoral Candidates at a primary election forum hosted by the University of South Florida St. Petersburg on Thursday, August 15.

The public forum will be held in City Hall's Council Chamber located at 175 Fifth St. North at 6 p.m.

The five candidates on the ballot are Anthony Lenardo Cates, Paul Joseph Congemi, Kathleen Sweeney Ford, David William (Bill) Foster and Rick David Kriseman.

Pinellas County, Florida -- The Human Society of Pinellas is partnering with the Safety Harbor Chamber of Commerce to present the Tail Waggin' Family Pet Walk and a 5K Race for the Hounds.

The Safety Harbor Marina will be the launch site for the event complete with food vendors, games and fun for the entire family! The festivities and walk/race check-in will begin at 4pm; the 1 mile Tail Waggin' Walk for families and pets begins at 5pm with plenty of refreshment and splash zones along the way.

Gulfport, Florida -- After several years of riding a Regions bike purchased by the tellers at the Gulfport branch, Regions higher-ups visiting the branch met Jimmy and decided it was time to buy Jimmy a new bike. After riding his bike every day for years, Jimmy's friend Rob Burkhart says it was time for a new one.
