College students awarded nursing scholarship

Seminole, Florida -- The Kiwanis Club of Seminole Breakfast Foundation awarded the Colonel Mildred Imogene Butler Nursing Scholarship at their meeting on June 25th.

This scholarship is awarded to Pinellas County students entering into or pursuing a career in nursing.

This year the Kiwanis announced two $3,000 scholarships will go to students currently attending St. Petersburg College. The recipients are the following:

Off-Duty Firefighter Saves Toddler From Drowning

Gulfport, Florida -- This weekend Gulfport firefighter/EMT Chris Mathis was working at his Pinellas Park home when he heard a commotion across the street. Mr. Mathis walked across the street and found a neighbor performing CPR on a two-year-old boy who had started to drown in his own pool. Mathis ventilated the toddler and joined the neighbor in CPR.

Two district students win national history awards

Dunedin, Florida -- Two Pinellas County Schools students won awards at the National History Day competition at the University of Maryland that was held June 9-13.

Mia Radovanovic, 16, a rising junior at Palm Harbor University High School, received the third place award in the Senior Individual Exhibit category for her project “Margaret Sanger: A Birth in Women’s Control.” Mia advanced to the national competition after placing second in the 2012-13 Florida History Fair.

Nia Vardalos comes to Tarpon Springs!

Tarpon Springs, Florida -- Nia Vardalos is coming to Tarpon Springs!

Best known for her movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding," now she is promoting her book "Instant Mom."

It will be a book-signing and dinner dance on Saturday, June 22 and doors open at 6:00 p.m. 

A donation of $60.00 is the cost for dinner and a personally autographed book. All proceeds benefiting The Children's Home, Inc. 

There will be limited seating and all tickets must be pre-purchased.

Tickets may be purchased at "Given with Love" at 526 Athens Street, Tarpon Springs.

Clearwater, Florida -- On June 6, The Clearwater Beach Chamber of Commerca held its part for the winners of the 2013 Restaurant Week. 

During Restaurant Week, participating restaurants offered a delicious menue and competed for the "Best in Class" in a number of catergories. 

Diners voted on the quality at each restaurant with over 5,000 ballots tallied and the results are as follows:
