Sex offender in custody after seen touching girls at Walmart

Largo, Florida -- Registered sex offender Robert Smith is in custody after video shows him touching several girls in a Valrico Walmart on East Brandon Blvd. Saturday afternoon.

Just after 3:00 p.m. Monday, the Largo Fire Department requested back up in dealing with a homeless person at the Largo Municipal Golf Course on Vonn Road.

The person appeared to have self-inflicted injuries, and was transported to a local hospital.  Upon arrival, Largo Police identified the man as Smith.

Smith was wanted out of Hillsborough County after detectives reviewed surveillance video from Walmart and say Smith is seen touching at least six young girls on the buttocks and then walking away. An 11-year-old victim's father saw the suspect touch his daughter and confronted him.

Sheriff invites public to meeting at Pinellas Safe Harbor homeless facility

Pinellas County, FL - Pinellas County Sheriff Jim Coats is inviting residents, business owners and anyone interested in the new Pinellas Safe Harbor homeless facility to attend an informational meeting tonight at 5:30 p.m.

The meeting will be held at the facility, located at 14840 49th Street North, which is a former Pinellas County Jail Annex II being re-configured to serve as a shelter and social service headquarters for homeless persons who otherwise would be involved in the criminal justice system - a decision met with considerable controversy.

Saint Petersburg, FL - The law firm of Reeder & Nussbaum, P.A., is helping to make sure it’s a happy holiday for foster children who otherwise couldn’t be sure Santa would remember them this year.

The law firm made a monetary donation to Foster Angels of Hillsborough County, which works with Hillsborough Kids to provide gifts for more than 2,500 children in the system of foster care.  The Foster Angels non-profit provides carefully-matched gifts with the wish lists of the children.

On Tuesday, Dec. 21, Reeder & Nussbaum, P.A., will give back to the community in another way.  The firm’s co-founders, Andrew Reeder and Marc Nussbaum, are hosting a free “Ask A Lawyer” Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at their St. Petersburg office, 2201 4th Street North, Suite G. Many times, people are involved in slip-and-fall cases, automobile crashes, or other painful situations and they don’t know whether or not they have a legal case.

'Hiccup Girl' appears at pre-trial hearing

Clearwater, Florida -- Accused killer Jennifer Mee -- also known as the "hiccup girl" -- was back in court today.

Today was Mee's pre-trial hearing.  She is accused of luring 22-year-old Shannon Griffin to a house in Saint Petersburg, where he was robbed and shot three times in the chest.

A judge has now set a March 16 trial date for the 19-year-old Mee, who faces murder charges.

Mee appeared on several national TV shows when she suffered from weeks of hiccup spasms in 2007.

Tampa, FL -- Deputies are investigating a suicide at the Shoot Straight gun range at 3909 North Highway 301.

Just before 4:00 Sunday afternoon, deputies responded to the business after getting reports that someone was shot in one of the stalls.

After reviewing the surveillance video in the shooting stalls, authorities were able to determine that 37-year-old Robert Chan of St. Petersburg shot himself.

There were approximately eight other people in other shooting stalls, but they did not witness the shooting.

Chan was transported to Tampa General Hospital where he later died.

Seminole, Florida -- A woman has died after a fire broke out in her Seminole home over the weekend.

Judy Dunberger, 64 was found near her front door just before 1 a.m. Sunday and was transported to Tampa General Hospital Burn Unit.

Investigators say a fire that started in the master bedroom was an accident. There were no other injuries.
