Woman enjoys the gift of freedom on her birthday

St. Petersburg, Florida -- Less than a week after her prison sentence was completed at the Hillsborough Correctional Facility in Riverview, Monique Baker celebrated her 51st birthday Tuesday by enjoying the gift of freedom and decorating the family Christmas tree.

"I didn't have a tree last year, or the year before that, or the year before that," Baker said.

Released from prison on Friday, Baker told 10 News she didn't need any other gifts because she was now able to spend time with her family.

"One of the most important things I learned was respect," Baker said about her 20 years in prison. She went on to say she now has a greater appreciation for the little things in life too.

Palm Harbor, Florida -- You've seen the digital road signs before while driving on the highway. You have seconds to glance at information about a missing child or senior citizen. Is it enough time? It was for Martha Gruber and her family.

"We were going south on U.S. 19 and went under the banner and saw a beige Corolla," recalls Martha Gruber.

Gruber says within seconds they spotted the 2006 beige Toyota Corolla driven by 84-year-old Gisela Petrovic. St. Petersburg police say Petrovic, who has dementia, was last seen near her mailbox on Saturday afternoon at her St. Petersburg apartment building off of Locust Street North.

"It was odd. Her flashers were continually on and it seemed she was weaving in her lane a little bit," says Gruber.

Her son, Cadence, had taken off his seatbelt and was thrown from the vehicle. He died.
