Gulfport Get Rescued Festival

Gulfport, Florida -- Mark your calendar for the ninth annual Gulfport’s Get Rescued, the animal rescue festival and fundraiser, on Feb. 23, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

This popular event has evolved from one block and a handful of animal rescue groups in its first year to one of the largest animal rescue events in the state. This popular and festive event now represents 50 rescue groups from throughout the region.

Logo Contest for Humane Society of Pinellas' Pick Me! Project

Pinellas County, Florida -- The Humane Society of Pinellas (HSP) has announced it is holding a contest to design the logo for the Pick Me! Project, HSP’s marketing effort for the ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge.

HSP is one of 50 shelters nationwide that will be competing for grant funds by adopting out the most pets in June, July, and August of this year. 

The winning logo will be utilized in all marketing relating to the Pick Me! Project, including online, in print, and on promotional materials.

Gulfport, Florida -- Nine-year-old Shyne Shorter can, and so can his sister Aaliyah. They both came to the Gulfport Public Library to read to Maya, a golden retriever trained to listen.

Therapy Dogs International (TDI) trains dogs and their handlers to work in a variety of therapeutic situations, including work as “Tail Waggin’ Tutors.”

Humane Society of Pinellas receives Business of Year Award

Clearwater, Florida -- On Wednesday, Feb. 6, The Humane Society of Pinellas received the Clearwater Regional Chamber of Commerce’s 2013 award for Medium Not-for-Profit Business of the Year at its annual meeting. The award was sponsored by the Clearwater Marine Aquarium.

Receiving the award on behalf of HSP were Executive Director Sarah Brown and Director of Events and Community Relations Twila Cole.

Post a valentine to support homeless pets

Pinellas County, Florida -- The Humane Society of Pinellas is getting in on the Valentine's Day fun and is offering three ways for you to celebrate and help pets at the same time.

For a $5 donation you can get a personlized card on Cupid's Tree; for $10 for can get a Cupid's Tree card and a Heart on the Wall of Love; or for $25 you can get the two previous items and post a valentine on the enclosure of one of the shelter's adoptable pets.

See the parade, rescue a dog in the new year

Pinellas Park, Florida -- If you're looking to adopt an animal this new year, you won't want to miss the Parade of Rescues this weekend.

It's Saturday, Jan. 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 7331 Park Blvd. North.

There will be a variety of Bay area adoption groups at the event during this 4th annual adoption event.
