Safety Harbor, Florida -- Come join the Humane Society of Pinellas for a walk/run with your pets!

The Tail Waggin' Family Pet Walk and 5K Race for the Hounds is happening on Saturday, August 31. 

The Safety harbor Marina will be the launch site for the event complete with food vendors, games and entertainment.

The festivities and check-in begin at 4 p.m. and the race begins at 5 p.m.

Equine therapy volunteer training

Pinellas Park, Florida -- Saddle Up Riding Club is inviting the community to attend their Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies Volunteer Training Open House.

This special  event will take place on Saturday, August 17th beginning at 9 AM.

Volunteers can be age 14 and up, with students receiving credit towards Bright Futures hours.

There is a need for people to walk with and lead horses for each lesson, along with a need for assistance with office work, marketing, fundraising and other special projects.

Adopt a pit bull for $5 during Animal Services’ Pittie-Party

Pinellas County, Florida -- To help find forever homes for all American Pit Bull Terriers at Pinellas County Animal Services, the shelter is having a pit bull Pittie-Party on Saturday, Aug. 17, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Pit bull and pit mix adoptions will be $5 each during this special promotion and will come with a goody bag of special dog treats and accessories.  The special adoption fee includes medical check-up, spaying/neutering, vaccinations, internal and external parasite control, heartworm testing, microchipping and county license.

Gulfport, Florida -- One year ago this past Saturday, Bob Derr rescued Zen, although, as it turns out, Zen has repaid the favor many times.

  Zen, a Mastiff who weighed in at 185 pounds at the Publix scale Saturday afternoon, can detect seizures. Bob, who has suffered head injuries, is prone to seizures. Unwittingly, Mastiff Rescue of Florida gave Bob the perfect service dog.  [READ MORE]

Tarpon Police welcome first K9 officers

Tarpon Springs, Florida -- There's a new officer walking the beat  in Tarpon Springs and he's doing it on four legs.

The Tarpon Springs Police Department is welcominig its first K-9 team--Officer Tommy Nguyen and his partner Dobies, a pure-bred German Shepherd.

Officer Nguyen and Dobies were one of six K-9 teams to graduate from a rigorous four-month training program at the Pinellas Park K-9 compound.
