Gulfport mayoral candidates debate issues

Gulfport, Florida -- On Tuesday night, Gulfport mayoral candidates Sam Henderson and Bob Worthington met in city council chambers to debate issues brought forth by those in attendance. Each candidate had up to one minute to respond to each question.

The League of Women Voters would not give the Gabber photocopies of the questions submitted or allow the Gabber to see the questions. When asked, League member Mary Berglund said they didn’t have the questions as they were asked as the League reworded the questions for various reasons.

Gulfport, Florida -- On March 12, Gulfport voters will decide who will serve as mayor. Both candidates have experience with the city -- one having served as the Ward Three representative and the other as the Ward Four representative. Both men have served as the city’s vice mayor.

We asked them to complete a basic set of questions about their life experiences and situation and we’ve presented their answers verbatim below. We present these answers based on the order in which we received responses (Mr. Worthington responded four and half hours before Mr. Henderson).

Gulfport, Florida - In 2007, Christine Brown told the Gabber she moved to Gulfport for her daughter, Elizabeth Brown-Worthington.

Councilwoman-elect Brown started life in Honolulu but moved from one city to the next as part of a Navy family. She graduated from Lakewood High School in 1988. A few years later, she met Lou Worthington through a man she was dating. She fell in love with Mr. Worthington, his family, and the entire town of Gulfport. In 1996, she and Lou bough their home on 53rd Street and 28th Avenue South. In 1998, they married.

Town Shores Mayoral Candidate Debate

On March 12, Gulfportians will elect their first new mayor in almost two decades. On Tuesday, February 5 the two candidates – current vice mayor and Ward Four representative Sam Henderson and former vice mayor and former Ward Three For Town Shores residents, Town Shores will re-run the debate three times before the election on Channel 96. The Gabber will also post a link to the entire debate this week.
