Pinellas Co. Democratic Party holds Inaugural Ball

Gulfport, Florida -- The Pinellas County Democratic Party is holding a 2013 Inaugural Ball to celebrate the inauguration of President Barack Obama.

The event will be held Monday, Jan. 21, from 7 to 11 p.m., at the Gulfport Casino.

Black tie is optional. Hors d'oeuvres and dessert will be served and there will be a cash bar. 

Tickets are $100 each and are limited.

Gulfport, Florida -- The Pinellas County Democratic Party will hold a Pre-Inaugural Event on Monday, Jan. 21.

Come join Stonewall Democrats of Pinellas County for a fun Pre-Inaugural Ball event at Neptune Grill, at 5501 Shore Blvd. S., directly across the street from the Casino where the Inaugural Ball will be held.

Enjoy your favorite beverages at Happy Hour pricing, from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m., and savor the second Inauguration of President Obama, and the great work of Stonewall Democrats of Pinellas County.

Admission is FREE.

New landscaping on Island Estates

Clearwater, Florida -- The city council agreed Thursday night to pay $14,000 for new landscaping on three medians of Island Way, the entryway to Island Estates and the Clearwater Marine Aquarium.

The Island Estates Civil Association would, in return, pay for maintenance of the new look into the future.

The civic association already maintains the main entry at Memorial Causeway. Under their proposal, the association would maintain the next three blocks north - roughly from the area of the Island Way Grill to Dory Passage.

Tarpon Springs, Florida -- On March 12, four candidates will vie for a seat on the City Commission. If you couldn't attend Tuesday's candidate forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters of North Pinellas County, you can still watch the forum.

Tarpon Springs, Florida -- The League of Women Voters of North Pinellas County is giving voters a chance to meet the candidates for City Commission.

The League is sponsoring a candidate forum for City Commission Seat #4 on Tuesday, Jan. 15. The forum will be held at the Tarpon Springs City Hall Auditorium at 324 E. Pine Street.

The event will begin with an chance for those attending to meet the candidates from 6:00 - 6:30 p.m. Attendees can submit their questions during that time. The forum is scheduled to run from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.

Sarasota, Florida -- When a court decided Sarasota’s beach smoking ban didn’t hold water, the implications reached across the bay to Gulfport.

The City drafted its beach smoking ban – which also bans smoking in children’s play areas and athletic fields – around the language in the Sarasota County law.

Sarasota Judge Maryann Boehm ruled last month that only the Florida legislature, not cities and counties, could ban smoking in public places.

St. Pete Beach, Florida -- From 1957 until last Sunday morning, St. Pete Beach had its own police department separate from the county. That changed at 7 a.m. Sunday, when, following the will of the voting majority, the City shuttered its police department and brought in the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) to police city streets.
