St. Pete budget forum coming up

St. Petersburg, Florida -- St. Petersburg residents have one more opportunity to share suggestions aimed at reducing the city's FY14 budget shortfall during a third city-sponsored public budget forum Wednesday, June 12.

The city is facing an estimated $2.8 million shortfall for FY14, significantly less than the $4.3 million city leaders had anticipated. City officials point toward higher than expected growth in property values as the reason for the decrease. Since 2010, Mayor Foster and City Council have asked for citizen input as they prepare the city's annual spending plan.

Gulfport, Florida -- Gulfport Harbormaster Denis Frain unveiled a plan for a new marina building that could accommodate liveaboard mariners, add a day room for sailors, and allow for boat lifts. It also included a slightly larger ship store. Plans for the marina upgrade also include a small park for liveaboard and transient boaters.
