White Chapel and Harbor Hall gets new manager

Palm Harbor, Florida -- The historic White Chapel and Harbor Hall has a new manager behind-the scenes this month. 

The Palm Harbor Community Services Agency has take over the role of manager of the White Chapel and Harbor Hall located on Georgia Avenue. 

The White Chapel, built in 1924, was a focal point in the growing Palm Harbor economy, serving as a church, food pantry, and later hosting Palm Harbor’s first library. In 2002, Pinellas County took ownership of the facility, along with its adjoining Harbor Hall reception facility.

Largo, Florida - Interested in learning your way around the fitness room at the new Highland Recreation Complex

Starting Tuesday, August 6, Highland Recreation will offer Women on Weights, a women's only, small group personal training class in the fitness room. 

Taught by certified personal trainer, Donna Corwin-Schwar, participants will learn how to use the fitness machines, weights and other fitness equipment effectively to strengthen their entire body.

Background levels of red tide off Pinellas beaches

St. Petersburg, Florida -- The Florida red tide organism was detected in background concentrations alongshore of Pinellas County this week, the FWD reported today.

The detection was found only in one sample.

The FWC said background concentrations of Karenia brevis was also found in a sample collected inshore of Sarasota County.

According to lifelong resident – and a descendant of the first settlers, the Barnetts – Bob Worthington, the first Gulfportians buried their dead on an old shell mound, the only land considered unsuitable for fruit trees.

Pinellas County Animal Services to close for In-Service Day July 30

Pinellas County, Florida -- Pinellas County Animal Services will be closed on Tuesday, July 30, for an In-Service Day. The facility will resume regular business hours on Wednesday, July 31.

Pinellas County Animal Services is located at 12450 Ulmerton Road in Largo. Normal hours of operation are Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with the adoption center closing at 5:30 p.m. Saturday hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and services include adoptions. Rabies vaccinations are administered on Thursdays from 1 to 4 p.m. The facility is closed all Pinellas County holidays.
