Gulfport, Florida 00 The street we all call 53rd – the one where you find city hall – used to be called Lee Street. While volunteering with the Gulfport Historical Society, George Allen discovered the "Streets and Avenues" collection. These books, compiled by the Gulfport author Lynne Brown, list almost every street in Gulfport and contain histories of the houses. Mr. Allen learned that his street used to be called Casaurina, a type of tree native to Australia, although his home doesn't have a specific entry.

Pinellas Park, Florida -- Flex your reading muscle with the Pinellas Park Library, during their new Evening Book Club meetings.

This free series will meet on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 6:30PM.

The next discussion will take place on Wednesday, October 9th and will focus on Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk by Ben Fountain.

Copies of each month's selected book will be available for purchase at the Check Out desk.

Armed Forces History Museum to extend Ride Through History event

Largo, Florida - The Armed Forces History Museum will extend its Ride Through History event due to popular demand.  The date is set for Saturday, September 21st from 10am to 4pm.  Ride Through History took place throughout the summer on July 13 and 27 as well as August 10 and 24.  The events have been enormous successes.

Pinellas County, Florida -- Pinellas County Health and Community Services will close its offices on Friday, Sept. 20 at 11 a.m. for in-service day.

All offices will reopen at 8 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 23, and resume normal business hours.

Gulfport, Florida --  Although the Gulfport city council renewed the Gulfport Yacht Club's lease for five years almost three years ago, Tuesday night the city council voted to reduce the rent based on silt accumulation in Boca Ciega Bay that impacts the club's wet slips.

Gulfport, Florida -- Every summer, the art teacher at Gulfport Multipurpose Senior Center goes north for the summer. And every summer, the students so much don't want classes to end that they keep going without a teacher. Instead of relying on formal instruction, they continue to meet weekly at the Senior Center and paint. If someone needs advice, criticism, or help, they help one another.
