East Lake annexation bill meeting set for Monday

East Lake, Florida -- On Monday, Feb. 21, many will gather at the East Lake Fire Department Station 57's Community Room to discuss the East Lake All or None Annexation Local Bill 02 being introduced in the Florida Legislature in 2011.

Learn why this bill is important to all the residents of un-incorporated northern Pinellas County. In addition, there will be a presentation and public forum on the East Lake Community Overlay being presented to the Pinellas County Commission this summer for adoption into the County Comprehensive Plan.

The meeting is being held by the Council of North County Neighborhoods, CNCN, a nonprofit organization and self-proclaimed "watchdog group" formed to bring together the North County's neighborhoods to promote communication and cooperation between member organizations of Northern Pinellas County and act as a neighborhood advocate for the benefit of member organizations.

Tarpon cathedral hosts 800-year-old icon

Tarpon Springs, Florida -- St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral will play host to an 800-year-old icon.

The Holy and Miraculous Kursk Root Icon, will arrive at the cathedral at 301 North Pinellas Avenue today.  Viewing will be held from 7:00-9:30pm.

According to church belief, the icon was first found in the 13th century at a time when the people of Kursk, Russia were forced from their homes. Kursk became a wilderness.  A hunter noticed the icon lying face down on the ground next to the root of a tree.  When the hunter picked it up and noticed the sacred image, a spring of pure water gushed forth. Believers claim many other miracles followed since the icon was first discovered.

Clearwater, Florida -- The city is currently hiring lifeguards and a camp counselor.

The pool guards/swimming instructors will work at various city pools and require Lifeguard Training Certificates and CPR/AED certificates before they can supervise swimmers.

The Camp Counselor/Recreation Leader would supervise youth in a city recreational setting.

Downtown St. Petersburg, FL -- For the next 41 days, downtown St. Petersburg streets will be changed into the course for the seventh annual 2011 Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. Th event is March 25th-27th. Crews are using 20,000 feet of steel-reinforced concrete barriers and 44,000 feet of chain-link fence to create an 1.8 mile, 14 turn course for the IndyCar race.

From now until the race is completed, only local traffic will be allowed on southbound Bayshore Dr. S.E. at First Ave. S.E. and eastbound Fifth Ave. S./Dali Boulevard at First St. S. Crews will install the track and barrier fencing along Bayshore Dr. S.E. As part of phase two, slated to begin Monday, February 21st, crews will build Pit Lane and spectator seating in Albert Whitted Park.

'Eat Pray Love' at Sunset Cinema tonight

Clearwater Beach, FL -- You may have to bundle up for tonight's movie at the pier, but it may be worth it to score boyfriend points with your lady for Valentine's weekend.

The movie scheduled for tonight at Sunset Cinema is the romantic drama Eat Pray Love (PH-13) starring Julia Roberts, Javier Bardem, and Richard Jenkins.  

The movie is free and start at dusk at Pier 60.

Palm Harbor, FL --  The Palm Harbor Community Activity Center, 1500 16th St., will serve a country breakfast on Sunday, Feb. 13 from 8:30 a.m. -11:30 a.m.


The buffet menu will feature scrambled eggs, potatoes, sausage/bacon, grits, pancakes, gravy and biscuits, danish, orange juice and coffee.


The cost is $4 for Activity Center members; $5 for non-members; $3 for children under age 10.

Acclaimed Author, John Greenburg will be at the Largo Public Library, today from 1 - 3:00 p.m. signing his new books, The Grand Old Man: Amos Alonzo Stagg and Captain Courageous: My True Story.

The book The Grand Old Man: Amos Alonzo Stagg is based on the life of football legend Amos Alonzo Stagg, whose football career spanned seven decades. His work in football helped define college football as it stands today. His work transcended college football into the developing NFL, where his work can still be found today.
