Clearwater, Florida -- Collaborators of the development of Stevens Creek will hold a celebration tomorrow morning at 10 a.m., honoring group efforts to complete the new affordable housing project.

Habitat for Humanity Pinellas County, Pinellas County, and the City of Clearwater combined forces to put the new community development plan into motion.

The city of Clearwater put forth a total $725,000 from its share of the Pinellas County Housing Trust Fund toward purchase of the land and demolition of the former apartments.

The spot was previously home to occupants of the Homer Villas, a public housing rental facility.

Former occupants of the Homer Villas will have first choice when selecting spaces in the new Stevens Creek.

“This is a splendid location,” said Frank Bowman, housing development manager for the Pinellas County Community Development Department. “This not only provides 51 affordable homeownership opportunities, it will serve to encourage revitalization in the area.”

The new community is also close to a variety of amenities, including a nearby school.

Each of the 51 new units in the subdivision will be offered to potential homeowners for approximately $150,000.

Residents interested in applying for housing opportunities can log on to habitatpinellas.org.
