Pinellas County may be able to make it easier and more affordable for 2012 to be the year to buy a new home. A program is available to buyers who have never owned a home, have not owned a home in the last three years or are veterans.

The rate for the Home Key 1st Mortgage is currently at 3.75 percent - an all-time low - and is available to first-time homebuyers in Pinellas, Pasco and Polk counties.

Gulfport offers additional property tax exemption for seniors

Gulfport, FL -- The City of Gulfport is offering an additional $25,000 exemption for an appropriate tax savings of $87.

Pinellas County offers an additional $25,000 exemption for those living in unincorporated areas, for an appropriate tax savings of $52.  This exemption applies to municipal and MSTU millage only, and is based on the total household income received during 2010.

Clearwater, Florida -- Pickles Plus Too is trying to stay at the Harborview Center a few more months.

The restaurant has asked the city for a three month extension to the lease that is due to expire next month, while it negotiates a new venue downtown.

The city agreed to buy out Pickles' long-term lease for $668,000 to expedite the closing of the Harborview Center. But the center itself had its life extended when exhibit space was leased to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium.

The long-term future of the Harborview Center is now uncertain.

Pinellas County, FL -- Pinellas County Property Appraiser Pam Dubov wants to remind permanent residents of Pinellas County that you may qualify for one or more property tax exemptions, which may result in hundreds of dollars in property tax savings. But, you must apply before the March 1 deadline.

Florida offers several types of property tax benefits for qualified residents:

This January, the Pinellas County Housing Authority and the Community Service Foundation will be holding a free two-part First Time Homebuyer seminars and workshops.

Participants will gain an understanding of the various types of assistance and programs available to first time homebuyers.

The seminars are scheduled for Jan. 3 and 10, from 6 - 9 p.m., at PCHA's Central Office, located at 11479 Ulmerton Road in Largo.

The housing authority will also be holding a two-part Household Bugeting Seminar Feb. 16 and 23 at the same location.

Dunedin, Fla. -- For Dunedin manufactured homeowners, the monthly Federation of Manufactured Home Owners of Florida, Inc meeting is set to take place Dec. 16.

Guest speakers will be Representative James Frishe and Attorney Diana Davis Basta of the Davis Basta Law Firm.

All manufactured homeowners are invited to this informative meeting.
