Clearwater Greenprint Plan to be unveiled at public hearing

Clearwater, Fla. -- The City of Clearwater continues taking steps to create a community that has more housing and transportation choices, is closer to jobs, shops and schools, is more energy independent, and helps protect clean air and water.

The final draft of the Clearwater Greenprint plan, "A Framework for a Competitive, Vibrant, Green Future," is complete and will be presented at a public hearing on Wednesday, Dec. 14 at 6 p.m. at the City Council meeting in City Hall.

Public comment will be taken, and residents are encouraged to speak on the topic.

Gulfport Arts Center gets new life

Gulfport, Florida -- Gulfport Arts Center will receive new polished concrete floor with the help of volunteers who will come together to give community center new life.

Four volunteers dove into a major renovation of the Gulfport Arts Center building in Gulfport today starting at 7 a.m. and should take approximately two days to complete.

The building, located at 2726 54th St. S., has provided decades of service to the community and is badly in need of a "fix up".

The City Council unanimously approved the local land marking of three properties within the City of St. Petersburg during today’s council meeting.

1.  The Jennie Hall Pool Complex located at 2650 10th Avenue South in Wildwood Park was deemed significant at the local level as a tangible example of the omnipresent racial discrimination of African American in the St. Petersburg community.  Rather than integrate existing swimming facilities, the City of St. Petersburg, with funds donated from an elderly white woman, constructed a segregated facility for African Americans.

Celebrate Trees and Traditions at Heritage Village

Heritage Village will present Trees and Traditions – a Centennial Celebration, a special day of holiday-related activities, on Saturday, Dec. 3, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Pinellas County Historical Society will sponsor an open house with refreshments, children’s activities and crafts, holiday music, tours and a special visit from Santa Claus.

Oldsmar breaks ground on Fifth Hotel

It’s official!  The ground starts turning on Wednesday, Nov. 30 for Oldsmar’s newest hotel, the Hampton Inn and Suites.  This marks Oldsmar’s fifth major hotel product. 

Simone Development and Management Company is the developer.  Paul Simone built Oldsmar’s first hotel, the Holiday Inn Express, which opened in 2001, as well as the Hilton Garden Inn, as part of the Park Avenue Plaza development.  All four current hotel products are in the city’s Town Center District.

New beach hotel topped off

Clearwater Beach, Florida - Construction of the beach's newest hotel has topped off at 10 stories.

The hotel, at 101 Coronado Drive just south of the roundabout, overlooks the Clearwater Beach Marina to the north and a wide vista of the Gulf of Mexico and Pier 60 to the west.

When completed early next year, the hotel will feature more than 100 rooms and a roof-top bar.  

A name for the hotel has not been announced.
