Pinellas County, Florida -- If a new home is on your wish list for the holidays, Pinellas County may be able to make it easier. The First-Time Homebuyer Program is available to those who have never owned a home, have not owned a home in the last three years or are veterans.

Three fires, one week

Gulfport, Florida -- In the past week, Gulfport has had three fires: one to a house and another two in alleyways.

On Nov. 21 around 1 a.m., a home on the 4700 block of Coronado Way South caught fire.

The family was asleep inside the home, but escaped unharmed when the grandmother “was awakened by a roaring sound”, according to the initial police report. She told police she saw flames coming from the garage/outside sitting area.

No one was injured and the city has yet to determine a cause.

Largo, Florida -- This week local officials broke ground on a new 153 unit affordable housing community for senior citizens. The ceremony took place at the Pinellas County Housing Authority site at 11479 Ulmerton Road in Largo.

Construction continues at The Birchwood Inn

St. Petersburg, Florida -- Construction continues on The Birchwood Inn in Downtown St. Petersburg. Construction isn't going quite as planned, pushing the opening back a couple of months.

The hotel will now open its doors on Beach Drive in mid-February featuring a 200-seat restaurant and chic boutique hotel rooms, according to Birchwood Development President Chuck Prather.

The Birch & Vine Restaurant will be on the first floor featuring globally inspired, locally harvested cuisine.

Capri & Palms Bridge construction meeting Tuesday

Treasure Island, Florida -- A special bridge construction meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at Treasure Island City Hall for residents of Isle of Palms and Capri Isle.

Public Works Director Jim Murphy and members of the design-build team, A2B Engineering and Johnson Brothers, will discuss the construction schedule for the replacement of the Isle of Palms and Capri Isle bridges and how it will affect access to the neighborhoods.
