Oldsmar City Council resolution opposes Amendment 4

Oldsmar, Florida -- One of the amendments on the Florida ballot is getting a vocal "No" vote from Oldsmar City Council.

Amendment 4 aims to reform parts of the state's property tax system, and would impact groups like first-time home buyers and commercial property. It was put on the ballot by the Legislature, and City Council members approved a resolution opposing its passage, calling it a measure that could further contribute to "the unequal treatment of Florida's taxpayers."

Tax increase on St. Pete Beach

St. Petersburg, Florida -- St. Pete Beach residents will pay higher taxes this coming year. The commission raised the millage, or tax rate, on property taxes to 3.2819 mils -- .425 mils higher than the current tax rate.

Property owners will pay $328.19 per $100,000 of assessed taxable property value, an increase of $42.50 per $100,000 of assessed property value over last year’s tax rate.  The increase will yield just over $830,000, needed to “fund our employee pension plans,” city manager Mike Bonfield told the commission.
