CPC denies retiree an enclosed porch, approves new development

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – During the most recent Community Preservation Commission (CPC) meeting, unanimous approval was given for variances for a new medical office and bank, but denial for a porch enclosure application by a Crescent Heights' homeowner. 

The CPC meeting took place on Friday, Feb. 17 in the City Council Chambers. Chair Robert Carter called the group, consisting of Christine Page, Robin Reed, Jeffrey Wolfe, Bob Jeffrey, First Alternate: Arnett Smith, Jr.  and Second Alternate: Lisa Wannemacher, to order.  Commissioner David Bacon was absent.

8th Annual Pink Flamingo Home Tour

Gulfport, Fla. -- The 8th Annual Pink Flamingo Home Tour will provide an inside glimpse of Gulfport's historical, conventional, creatively renovated and quirky homes from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on March 10.

You can pick up your tickets and a map at Stetson College of Law, 1401 61st Street S. Trolley and bus service will be available. 

Tickets are $15 on March 10, $13 in advance from Gulfport Area Chamber of Commerce Visitors Center, 4926 Gulfport Blvd.

Plans for new beach marina restaurant moving forward

Clearwater Beach, Fla. -- The beach is closer to having yet another restaurant.

Preliminary plans for a restaurant on the 2nd floor of the marina go before the city's Building Plans Review Committee next Wednesday, city officials say.

Harbormaster Bill Morris, Island Way Grill restauranteur Frank Chivas and his contractor will review plans for taking over the top floor offices which Chivas has been renting since October.

Additional property tax exemption available for seniors

Pinellas County, Fla. -- An additional property tax exemption of up to $50,000 is available for qualified senior citizens in 23 municipalities and Unincorporated Pinellas. The amount varies by taxing district and is based on the total household income received in 2011. The deadline to apply is March 1.

Green Advantage professional training offered

Pinellas County Extension, in partnership with the University of Florida’s Program for Resource Efficient Communities, will offer Green Advantage professional training on Thursday, Feb. 23, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Pinellas County Extension.

The 8-hour course will provide professionals with an overview of key provisions in the Florida Building Code that affect building performance, introduce the concept of building as a system and examine environmental building failures, resulting from design and construction techniques.

$4.2M in federal funding will go to housing and community development

$4.2M in federal funding will go to housing and community development

 

Pinellas County expects to receive approximately $4.2 million in federal grant funds and program income for housing and community development programs for the fiscal year beginning Oct. 1, 2012. In addition, approximately $530,000 in program income from state and local funds will be available.

Applications for housing and community development funding are due by March 2.
