Beach bar owner "blindsided" by commissioner request

St. Pete Beach – Rob Williams thought he would speak about the car show and go back home, but before the commission reached that item on the agenda, District 1 Commissioner Lorraine Huhn told fellow commissioners she thought the outdoor use in front of the Swigwam--Williams’ tavern on Corey--posed a “public safety issue”.

“It [the city allowing smokers to sit in front of the Swigwam] really isn’t working as well for the city as it is for one of the business operators,” she said.

Tarpon Springs, Florida -- The food trucks return to Tarpon Springs this weekend.

Tasting Tampa is organizing Saturday's rally on Tarpon Avenue in historic downtown Tarpon Springs. The trucks will be serving from 4 - 8 p.m. near Back of the Bay Books.

Pinellas Park, Florida -- It's a fun night for the fine beer drinkers in Pinellas Park. The public is invited to attend the Sour, Lambic & Berliner Weisse Festival, taking place at Cajun Café on the Bayou on Saturday, June 16 from 2 till 6 p.m.

Attendees will enjoy over 60 Sour and Lambic Beers from across the country and around the world.

Some of the brands served will include Wakefield Brewing, 7venth Sun Brewery, Funky Buddha, Cigar City Brewing, Saint Somewhere, and more.

Taste Safety Harbor had closed temporarily on May 1, but in a recent post on the cafe's Facebook page, it was announced that Taste would not be "reopening in its original incarnation". The owners had sold the cafe at 500 Main Street.

Clearwater Beach, Florida -- Two beach businesses were honored for excellence Tuesday night at the Clearwater Beach Chamber of Commerce 2012 awards banquet.

Shephard's Beach Resort won Large Business of the Year, and Crabby Bills Beachwalk Bar & Grill won for Small Business of the Year. Sunsets at Pier 60 Daily Festival also was cited for Non-Profit Business of the year.

Hooters hosts 'Friends and Family' this weekend

Clearwater Beach, Florida - If you see the lights on and people packed into the Clearwater Beach Hooters this weekend, it's just for practice.

Hooters will be hosting friends and family practice sessions as it prepares to open. 

The training sessions Saturday and Sunday are by invitation only. They include free food and non-alcoholic drinks at the second floor dining area and rooftop venue, the Lookout.

But don't worry, Hooters opens to the public Monday, May 4 at 381 Mandalay Avenue on the north side of the beach Roundabout.
