12 winner will be selected for the 2014 Solid Waste & Recycling calendar and will be on Dunedin TV!

Teen Read Week challenges youth to break comfort zones

CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Clearwater Public Library System will host its annual Teen Read Week, Sunday, Oct. 13 through Saturday, Oct. 19.

Teens are invited to visit any library branch and pick up a book to participate in the "Break Out of Your Comfort Zone Challenge."

Teens who read books in genres or formats they generally avoid will be eligible to vote for their favorites and win prizes for their efforts. Librarians will be on hand to offer suggestions and assistance.

Pinellas County, Florida -- The University of South Florida in St. Petersburg will host a college fair with people from 80 universities around the nation.

Meet with admissions professionals representing over 80 universities around the nation, including USF St. Petersburg! The event is free for students and guests.

The event will be held on Sunday, September 22 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg University Student Center. The following colleges and universities will be represented:

Pinellas County, Florida -- The Pinellas Education Foundation has opened the application process for more than 150 scholarships that it distributes to Pinellas County School seniors each year.

An essay on the topic the "Greatest Challenge I have faced or expect to face," is required. There are over 30 scholarships available. 

The application deadline is 5 p.m. on January 13, 2014.

Belle of the Ball Project helps girls afford homecoming dresses

Pinellas County, Florida -- Belle of the Ball Project will distribute Homecoming dresses to in-need, low-income high school girls on 5 upcoming Saturdays : September 21, 28, October 5, 19, and 26.

Over 3,000 quality dresses will be on display for the girl's choosing, along with shoes and purses. Founded in 2003, Belle of the Ball Project Inc. is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide homecoming and prom dresses to high school girls who are unable to afford a dress for these special events.

Bands on the Bayou to raise money for Tarpon Springs High Marching Band

Tarpon Springs, Florida -- The Tarpon Springs High Marching Band is heading to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and the kids need your help.

A daylong music festival, Bands on the Bayou, will help defray some of the costs for the expensive trip. The event will be held on Sunday, Sept. 1st at Craig Park from noon until 8:00pm.
