5K race to help Tarpon High band get to Macy's Parade

Tarpon Springs, Florida -- In just a few months, the Tarpon Springs High School Marching Band will be performing before a national audience at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.

The route is a little over 2.6 miles. You can help them get to the parade by running five kilometers.

On Saturday at 8:30 a.m., the school is hosting a fundraiser for the marching band, called "Band on the Run." It's a 5K race and a one-mile family fun run. The cost is just $35 for the 5K and $20 for the one-mile run if you register before April 25.

Tarpon Springs, Florida -- Music on the Beach 2013 will have Tarpon Springs High School Jazz Ensemble on April 18. 

The even will be held at the beach near Tarpon Springs High School and there will be a free shuttle bus to the beach from the high school. 

People should bring chairs, blankets and friends!

The event is from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and it is free!

Endowed Professorship awarded to USFSP marketing professor

St. Petersburg, Florida -- Philip Trocchia, Ph.D., associate professor of marketing in the USF St. Petersburg College of Business, has been awarded the 2013 Bank of America Endowed Professorship in Business.

The professorship, established in 1989, rotates among College of Business professors and is awarded on a competitive basis. Trocchia also held the professorship during the 2011-2012 academic year.

Palm Harbor, Florida -- Cypress Woods Elementary held their "Speak Up Be Safe Rally" on April 10 to recognize the winners of an essay contest.  

One winning essay was chosen from each grade and the winners received a commendation and a gift certificate donated by San's Pizzeria and Restaurant. The winners were also given a ride on East Lake's antique American LaFrance fire truck.

Tarpon Springs, Florida -- In January, the Florida Hospital North Pinellas donated computers to New Port Richey’s Adventist Christian Academy in hopes to further the efficiency and effectiveness of the students’ time in the classrooms with the aid of technology.
