High school students plant salt marshes to restore shoreline

Clearwater, Florida -- Countryside High School students will plant valuable salt marsh grasses to restore the shoreline of Feather Sound on the morning of Thursday, April 4th.

This hands-on project is part of the Bay Grasses in Classes (BGIC), an award-winning program sponsored by Tampa Bay Watch.

Local student will compete in Florida state Geography Bee

St. Petersburg, Florida -- How many sixth grade students can tell you which two Latin American countries share the Tierro del Fuego island group? 

Coleman Mantell, a 6th grader at the Canterbury School of Florida, one of the few in the state of Florida who can.

The St. Petersburg's Canterbury School of Florida student is one of the youngest to be competing against 99 other children on 5th April, at the Florida state Geography Bee in Jacksonville.

Pinellas County, Florida -- Registration for kindergarten began on March 4. 

The district is urging parents to register their children for the 2012-2014 school year by this date. To register for kindergarten children must:

  • Be 5 years old on or before September 1
  • Be able to show proof of residency
  • Have a Florida Certificate of Immunization
  • Have a physical examination certificate

Country Day School opens New World School

Country Day School opens New World School

Largo, Florida -- The Country Day School is opening its New World School Campus. 

The grand opening will take place on April 5, it will include local officials, educators, and invited guests for a formal ribbon cutting ceremony and private tours. 

The new school will introduce numerous educational innovations in design and technology. The facility will integrate core studies as advanced math, world humanities and Chinese. 

The school also has a film recording studio and a black box studio.

Palm Harbor students honored with film production awards

Palm Harbor, Florida -- Five students from Sutherland Elementary School in Palm Harbor were recently awarded the high honor at the International Student Media Festival in Louisville, Kentucky.

Colby Sparkman, Alyssa Farimella, Connor Wendt, Carley Hoelzle and Austin Malpass produced a film called "The Big Race", which won the Excellence in Media Production category for grades 4-5.

The school got a plaque to honor the students' achievement.

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office And City of Seminole Fire Rescue Team Up For Battle Of The Belts

Partnering with several local organizations, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office will be involved in this year's Battle of the Belts at Seminole High School. The Battle of the Belts program was initiated in an effort to increase safety belt use amongst teenagers and decrease the number of students who drive distracted or impaired.
