Gulfport, Florida -- Part-time Gulfport resident James Beyor believes water is the answer, and it looks like he knows how to prove himself right.

“It’s a fascinating endeavor,” he says of his invention, the Sea Drive. It’s not quite ready for primetime – Mr. Beyor still must run sea trials and get more funding to make his invention a reality – but, he says, he hopes it will be soon.

What, exactly, did he invent? Simply put, the retired engineer created a way to use water to move boats through the water.

Pinellas County, Florida -- On Feb. 9, over 175 students will present their projects at the Pinellas County Schools District Science Fair at Seminole Middle School

The event will be held from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at Largo High School on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. Some winners of the District Science Fair will have the opportunity to take their projects and compete in the 2013 State Science Fair.

Clearwater, Florida -- Andy Karpinski, auto/aerospace engineer and inventor, will discuss ways to dramatically reduce electric use 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7 at Moccasin Lake Nature Center.

Many of the techniques he uses are easily done by the homeowner and often involve slightly different ways of doing everyday things. His focus will be on making inexpensive changes with little or no construction skills.

Karpinski reduced his electric bill to less than $20 a month after 30 years of study and experimentation.

More than 500 students from Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas counties are expected to compete in the two-day SkillsUSA regional competition Feb. 6 - 7 at pTEC, Clearwater and St. Petersburg.

Students will compete in numerous categories including automotive service technology, cosmetology, welding, photography, and plumbing.

Clearwater Police introduces Tip411 app for Android users

Clearwater, Florida -- The Clearwater Police Department has unveiled its new Clearwater PD Tip411 app for Android users.

The app enables the public to send anonymous tips to police and also allows police to respond back, creating a two-way anonymous "chat."

CPD launched a similar app in 2011 for iPhones and is now expanding its reach into the Android market.
