Start new year with computer class at the library

Clearwater, Fla. - Make one of your New Year's resolutions to use that personal computer that has been gathering dust. Clearwater Public Libraries make it easy to learn with free classes open to the public.

Personal computer classes and PC application support are available at all Clearwater Public Library branches.

In January, you can find help at these convenient locations and times:

Palm Harbor, FL -- Are you curious about the new reading devices and wonder if you might like it?

Instead of spending the cash to buy one only to return it, you can drop by the Palm Harbor Public Library and try one out first.

The library has three Kindles you can check out for two weeks. They come loaded with books and instructions. This way you can try it before spending big bucks on one.

Simply drop by the adult services desk at the library and ask to check out a Kindle.

The library is located at 2330 Nebraska Ave in Palm Harbor.

Palm Harbor, FL -- You can encourage that passion with a workshop at the Palm Harbor Public Library.

A one-hour workshop on how to take the best possible pictures with your cell phone camera will take place on Dec. 20 from 5 - 6 p.m.

This is open to kids in grades 6 thru 9. They will learn lighting techniques, digital image editing and techniques on composition. They will also have a better understanding of how their camera phone functions.

This is being held in the Harbor Room and space is limited so you should pre-register.

Clearwater, Florida -- The city is asking all residents to exercise care when using home heating equipment.

"Almost half of home heating equipment fires are reported during the months of December, January, and February," the city fire department reported Thursday.

Dunedin, Fla. -- The Dunedin Library will be holding a class to teach how to download library books.

Mark Young, our library Computer Class instructor, will be teaching how to download library e-Books to a Kindle from 10 - 11 a.m.

How to download library e-Books to a Nook will be taught from 11:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. It takes place Saturday, Dec. 17 at 10 a.m.

St. Petersburg, Fla. -- Starting Tuesday, you can check out the three pier concepts on display at the Museum of Fine Arts. It's part of a special exhibit hosted by the St. Petersburg Museum of History from Dec. 6 - 30.

The museum is located at the base of the current pier approach at 335 Second Ave. N.E. The exhibit, "Look, Think, Share," will be free and open to the public for comment.
