New Walmart opens in Grand Central District

ST. PETERSBURG, Florida - The Grand Central Business District welcomed a mainstream retailer to its services mix, a 107,000 square-foot neighborhood Walmart Center.

The grand opening festivities were met with great fanfare with well over 100 in attendance, including: Rep. Darryl Rouson, D-St. Petersburg; City Councilmen Jeff Danner, Wengay Newton, Herb Polson, and Bill Dudley; and many of the 300 new employees of Walmart (201 34th Street N).

As a former Montgomery Ward site, the development took a few years to materialize, through zoning allowances, Brownfield remediation, and both neighborhood and business association group discussions to ensure the successful revitalization of a blighted parcel in the city.
