Christmas shopping: Toy store chain opens for 88 hours straight

Christmas shopping: Toy store chain opens for 88 hours straight

St. Petersburg, Florida -- Toys "R" Us stores across the Tampa Bay area embarked on their first-ever always-open 88 hour marathon leading up to Christmas Day.

The toy store chain has opened for long holiday hours in the past, but this is a 24/7 effort like never before.

Toys "R" Us stores in most of the U.S. opened at 6 a.m. Tuesday and won't close until 10 p.m. Christmas Eve.

The chain says it's trying to help parents and other shoppers who have a hard time finding free time among busy schedules and holiday stress.

One of the first shoppers to stroll into the Tyrone Square store in St. Petersburg said she snuck out of the house before her teenage kids woke up to shop while they slept.

Plus, as online shopping becomes more popular, buyers are more accustomed to 24-hour-a-day availability.
