Don't let cooking grease smear your holiday fun

Clearwater, Florida -- Last holiday season, residents brought more than 350 gallons of leftover greases, oils, and fats to the City of Clearwater for recycling.

If you use a turkey fryer to cook up a holiday meal this season, bring the leftover grease to the city's grease recycling drop-off center, located at the Solid Waste & General Services Complex, 1701 N. Hercules Ave. This facility is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and the program is free for all city residents.

Treasure Island, Florida -- Republic Services, the City's recycling contractor will not be doing curbside recycling on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 22.

Recycling on Friday, Nov. 23 for residents south of the Treasure Island Causeway will occur as usual.

But the next recycling day for residents north of the Treasure Island Causeway will be Thursday, Nov. 29, when the normal recycling schedule resumes.

The recycling centers will remain in operation throughout the holiday for all residents use.

Largo, Florida -- City Hall and most city facilities will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 22.

If your residential garbage, recycling and bulk pick up is on Thursday it will be collected one-day earlier on Wednesday, Nov. 21.

Once again, there will be no residential garbage, recycling, bulk, or commercial collection on Thursday, Nov. 22.

Commercial (dumpster) customers will be collected on Wednesday, Nov. 21 and Friday, Nov. 23. If you have questions please call (727) 587-6760.

Dinner and silent auction begin at 5:30 p.m., with the live auction starting at 6:30 p.m.

Pinellas County, Florida -- Water shortages can change the watering schedule and non-compliance can result in a fine. The Pinellas County Department of Environment & Infrastructure (DEI) sent the first email watering restriction schedule to customers Monday using up-to-date email addresses.

St. Petersburg, Florida -- On Nov. 3, PARC Thrift Store will hold a special sale on a number of items that will be marked down to just $5!.

Items include clothing, bedspreads and any number of items. The store says the merchandise has been freshly drycleaned and is donated by Sun Country Cleaners.
