Deadly Rival Roller Derby will hold a recruitment night for those interested in joining in with the local group.

This event will take place at Astro Skate in Pinellas Park on Thursday, June 27th beginning at 8:30 p.m.

Organizers welcome you to, "come find an outlet for the stress in your life by taking part in the hard-hitting action," and say there is no experience necessary.

Pinellas County Schools is offering several fun learning opportunities for students K-12, including some that don't even require leaving the house. 

Some of the programs involved are:

Figure This! - An online resource center that offers interesting mathematical challenges that middle school students can do at home with their family. 

Learn how to draw at comic book and cartoon camp

Learn how to draw at comic book and cartoon camp

Largo, Florida -- Learn the basics of drawing super heroes, comic book characters and cartoons from an award-winning illustrator and artists. 

Peter Pachoumis, whose work has appeared in the pages of DC Comics, Images Comics, Wildstorm Comics and Popular Science magazine, will teach a camp in Largo this summer. He has also contributed illustrations to properties such as Star Wars, Star Trek, The Terminator, and Disney's Hercules. 

The Comic Book & Cartooning camp runs from July 8-12 at the new Highland Recreation Complex and is from ages 11 to 16.

Gulfport, Florida -- Come help the Gulfport Historical Society reinvent itself at its first-ever porch party.

Over the years, community participation in the society has dwindled, and the board wants fresh ideas and new faces to help make the museum a gathering place for everyone who loves Gulfport.

To that end, the Society will host an informal porch party on Friday, June 28. The party will start at 7 p.m.; the society will have light beverages on hand for free and wine available for a small donation.

June 20, the CoffeeTalk Book Discussion will be about William Faulkner's book Light in August. You can pick up a copy of the book at the circulation desk at the library.

The discussion will take place on Thursday, June 20 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.

Palm Harbor, Florida -- Coming up in July the Brooker Creek Preserve will be meeting to discuss books about Florida. 

The Brooker Book Club meets the first Saturday of each month and meets to discuss works by Florida authors, past and present, with archeology, biography, politics and history storylines. 

The book selection for discussion on July 6 is Star Island by Carl Hiaasen. The book club meets from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m..

The book club is free although advance registration is required because seating is limited.
